Arnold and Gerda Stepanek - Founder, consulting
 |
1954 – An extraordinary story of success begins.
While still studying to be an engineer at a technical college, Arnold Stepanek constructed the first cast aluminum camera housing and in the process launched an ongoing series of successes extending to the present. By 1965 he built his first housing for an SLR – the Edexia Reflex, and by 1969 he registered his manufacture of underwater housings with local authorities. Soon word of mouth from happy customers spread way beyond the region and gave Arnold reason to leave his position as a designer in the heavy machinery industry and concentrate of building underwater camera housings. By 1977, together with wife Gerda, Arnold Stepanek lauched A. Stepanek Ltd and the brand SUBAL was born. Soon word spread internationally and SUBAL became a household name among serious underwater photographers around the world. To date the brand stands for innovation and quality made in Austria. |
